Any OS that can load nothing but a browser?

Hi, I want some kind of Operating System like DOS (preferably non-graphical) that can load a browser like Firefox (including graphics). I don’t need any other program installed. The reason I want this is because I want to be able to turn on my computer and just check my mail without having a long list of unnecessary programs starting in the background.
Some people I asked suggested I try one of the Linux Distros; well, I’ve already tried a lot of them (Xubuntu, DSL, VectorLinux, etc) and they load even slower than my Windows XP.
Bear in mind that I only want this as an additional OS to be installed in another partition of my hard drive. By the way, I have a Pentium 4 with 512 ram and a 30gb disk.

I have a Pentium 4, 2.26GHZ and 128MB of RAM PC.So i tried installing Hardy heron-ubuntu using the alternate cd for i386 computers. the installation went smoothly,but when i login giving my user name and password,the desktop appears to be loading with the beautiful wallpaper of the heron in the background…..and thats about it.The computer just STALLS.I know I have a pretty low RAM,but shouldn’t be able to work with it?

can you browse the internet with mythbuntu?

xubuntu does not recognize HD?
