How can I regain space on hard drive after removing Ubuntu?
bengreenslade2 asked:
I recently dual booted ubuntu and windows vista , now that I have removed ubuntu I have 2 partitions one for windows and the other blank, but for some reason I cant get the space from ubuntu back into the windows one (ubuntu 25gb, windows 49gb) I want to make the windows one 74gb. I have tried alsorts but cannot delete or repartition however I can delete the 25gb in the windows vista disk management the only problem is i do not know what will happen, will it go back into the windows partition or what. All I want is to get the 25gb so that I can use it in windows
Thanks

Do i need to partition my hard drive for dual boot?
Poggy asked:
I am running Vista at the minute and i am going to dual boot with Linux Ubuntu. (Hardy Heron)
I do not know much about partitions but in my computer i have a Vista:C which is around 75GB and this is where everything on Vista saves. I then have a Data:E which is around 75GB and is virtually empty. When i install Ubuntu can i just install it onto Data:E and not have to partition anything?

Hard Drive won’t boot but detected by BIOS?
Arnold asked:
I just installed xubuntu to a partition of my hard drive but during installing it took 2 hours and a power failure happened so it shutdown without finishing installation. Now after that I turned on my computer and it does not boot anymore, all the partitions are gone even if i hit f5 and select my boot device the partitions to boot in the harddrive are gone. Then i go to the BIOS and i can still see there the physical hard drive is detected but the problem is i can’t boot even on my Xp windows (it is dual booted OSes). And I connected another physical drive and booted in to windows, now i can see the partitions in the old (corrupted) hard drive are still intact and my old files in the other partitions are still there and i can use the device for storage but still i can not boot from my old OSes there. Is there anyway i can still boot from the ‘corrupted’ hard drive? Is there any settings i must configure?

Problems installing xubunut, I have built in graphics card and a pci graphics card I upgraded, when nothing sh
Chris Smith asked:
I’m new to linux and im installing linux on my moms machine 900mhz celeron with 256 mb ram, I also added a pci graphics card to it a while ago, cant remember the name, i unstalled xp off of it and deleted the partitions, i’ve reinstalled ubuntu 3 times now, the install goes fine but whene it restarts after its done it loads the xubuntu splash screen with the little bar going accross it and then the screen turns black and stays there (but the green light is on like power is getting sent to it)and thats when the monitor is plugged into the pci card I upgraded not the onboard, so then i plugged the monitor into the onboard to see if the signal was going there but the screen is black and the monitor light turns yellow(like in waiting mode) I cant disable the on board graphics card in bios can only set it to 512 kb istead of 1mb??????????

agassi asked:
my hard disk info is like this:
1) 80 gb-sata
2) 4 partitions and some unallocated free space
3) C:7gb ->winxp, D:25gb->data ,similarly E: and f: ALL FAT32
4) UNALLOCTED SPACE:10GB(i have kept it aside for linux )
NOW MY QUERY IS THAT
**I WANT A DUAL BOOT SYSTEM WITHOUT AFFECTING THE “MBR”
**SO THAT I AM ABLE T REMOVE LINUX/WIN WITHOUT AFFECTING EACH OTHER
**IS THIS FEASIBLE?
** is the / boot partition necessary apart from / and swap
** ALSO I DON’T HAVE ANY IDEA ABOUT “GRUB” AND IT CORRUPTING THE “MBR”
** ONE MORE THING I NEED IS “gcc compiler” ! DOES KUBUNTU COME LOADED WITH IT ?IF NOT PLEASE GUIDE ME REGARDING THE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE!
** DUE TO THESE DOUBTS(AND FEAR) ONLY I HAVE DEFERRED TO INSTALL LINUX!!!!!! SO IF ANYBODY COULD HELP ME OUT I WILL BE EXTREMELY THANKFUL
THANKS

Is it possible to run a Ubuntu Live CD on a USB stick?
dreamyhotty asked:
Also, by default, I have two partitions on my hard drive - one 30GB that I keep Windows XP Professional, and another unused 160GB one. When I install Ubuntu, will it give me an option to make and choose a partition of a Windows partition?
In other words - when making a partition, will Ubuntu recognize and let me choose Windows partitions?
