Can I set up a dual boot AFTER installing Linux and Windows XP?

alan_p_martin asked:

Hi people,

So I installed Ubuntu (Gutsy Gibbon) onto a different partition, keeping my Windows XP install and the rest of my files in tact. The trouble is I have no idea how to set up a dual boot (and currently have no internet connection for the PC in question…)

Is it possible to set up a dual boot after installing both, or is this something that needs to be done before? What do I need, and can I do this without an internet connection?

Currently it autoboots into Linux and I have no idea to get into Windows even if I needed to. :(
Please help!
Additional details - okay, the big answer seems to be “no, you have to reinstall it” - my next question is how, exactly? How do I delete it, or how do I boot into XP to delete it, or do I just boot from the Gutsy Gibbon CD and do an install from there?

Any help appreciated.

How can I install XP and uninstall ubuntu?

Vrixton P asked:

I had Ubuntu. Only Ubuntu, not a dual boot or anything like that, it originally had XP, so I put in the recovery CD, and it seemed to work. But then when it restarted, it said “Invalid Partition” so now XP won’t open up.
I’m currently running my computer off the live CD, so what should I do? Install Ubuntu and then what? Or am I doing something wrong?

I’m completely lost :(

How can I run my ubuntu linux partition from with in windows xp?

daarcher_utep asked:

I want to run on windows but want the programming benefits that the terminal gives, i don’t really even need gnome. Cygwin does not work as well as I need it to but I am a moron so I might be doing something wrong but don’t know where, but thats not my question. Anyway is there a way to run at least the terminal in windows?

*Cygwin likes to give my my two word windows username which has a space but that is a no no in linux.

i would like to install ubuntu on a brand new HDD?

Stone asked:

I have the installation disk for Ubuntu, now what? I want to run a dual boot system, so do I need any additional software? I have tried running the installation, but it seems my current HDD is already partitioned with “secure” areas that I can not delete to progress. i am buying a new HDD and will first install Windoze XP, but then want to continue with Ubuntu. I know I need a partition for XP, then Ubuntu, then a “swap” partition for my files that both systems will share. Any help would be appreciated!

How to install extended partition in Ubuntu?

Yknihc asked:

Okay, I am running Ubuntu 6.10 off of the live cd. On my one hard drive (200GB) I have a partition for my XP, a Vista Partition and a HP recovery partition. Now with Ubuntu, it’s telling me I need to make 2 more partitions! One for the “/” and one as a swap. That makes a total of five, and when I try to do this, it says that I can only have 4 primary partitions. So, when I try to make my fourth partition, the extended and logical partition options were grayed out. (I was told you need to make a logical or extended partition to have more than 4). Plz. Help!
I have resized my main C: to have 20GB of free space. Space is not the problem, I’m wondering why it won’t let me make extended and logical partitions.
