Partition question?

Okay, I’m trying to run a dual-boot on a Windows 98 SE computer with Xubuntu (Linux). I haven’t installed Xubuntu yet because apparently I need to partition the hard disk. It’s a 14 GiB computer. I’ve downloaded freeware called Cute Partition Manager, but I don’t know how to work it or what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
