How do you remove one of two copies of Ubuntu?

Ugly Duckling asked:

(Just saying, I’m a complete newbie to all this.) While I was installing Ubuntu, I was partitioning my Hard Drive when my computer died on me. (I was using a bootable disc of the latest copy of Ubuntu) So I booted off the disc again and was partitioning my hard drive, again. Ubuntu is installed and working but when I start up my computer, I have 2 options of Ubuntu to run from. How do I get rid of one?

Ubuntu: How to disable use of a printer for a user?

QuestionAnswers asked:

OK, I’m pretty confident with windows, but comparatively new to Linux. I’m using Ubuntu (6.06 Dapper Drake).

I know it’s possible to stop a user installing printers, but any regular users here know if it’s possible to completely disable use of any installed printer for a particular user? (or maybe require an admin password?).

If so, it’d really help me to know - thanks!
Thanks for this info, Bakegoodz!

I did what you said, however whenever I initiate pessulus from the terminal (in the account I want to switch off printing for) I get this responce:

(pessulus:7602): GConf-WARNING **: haven’t implemented getting a specific locale in GConfClient

Pessulus starts, but after checking the options “Disable printing” and “Disable print setup”, they have no effect. They are still checked if I restart pessulus.

Please help!

How to get a Linux machine (Ubuntu Edgy) to hook up to the internet?

Christian asked:

I have a Linksys WRT54GS router and two Windows PCs hooked up to that. On a third machine, I removed Windows and installed Ubuntu 6 instead (Edgy). I must say that I do like Linux! Is there any way I can get my new Linux box to hookup to my existing home network?

If not, is there a way I can put all three of the machines on a single home network (ideally wireless because of where they’re located in the house; different floors and such).

I’m open to various options (hub, switch, whatever).

Thanx!

How to install extended partition in Ubuntu?

Yknihc asked:

Okay, I am running Ubuntu 6.10 off of the live cd. On my one hard drive (200GB) I have a partition for my XP, a Vista Partition and a HP recovery partition. Now with Ubuntu, it’s telling me I need to make 2 more partitions! One for the “/” and one as a swap. That makes a total of five, and when I try to do this, it says that I can only have 4 primary partitions. So, when I try to make my fourth partition, the extended and logical partition options were grayed out. (I was told you need to make a logical or extended partition to have more than 4). Plz. Help!
I have resized my main C: to have 20GB of free space. Space is not the problem, I’m wondering why it won’t let me make extended and logical partitions.

Wireless besides ndiswrapper in linux for dell wireless?

Ben asked:

I am currently running Kubuntu on my inspiron 640m notebook. I was wondering if there were any ways to get the wireless card to function without using ndiswrapper. I am currently using ndiswrapper and was wanting to try out kismet, but since ndiswrapper uses windows drivers which do not support monitoring mode, I can not get it to work. I have tried looking and don’t know if there are any other options.
Thanks in advance for any help.
