How to install extended partition in Ubuntu?

Yknihc asked:

Okay, I am running Ubuntu 6.10 off of the live cd. On my one hard drive (200GB) I have a partition for my XP, a Vista Partition and a HP recovery partition. Now with Ubuntu, it’s telling me I need to make 2 more partitions! One for the “/” and one as a swap. That makes a total of five, and when I try to do this, it says that I can only have 4 primary partitions. So, when I try to make my fourth partition, the extended and logical partition options were grayed out. (I was told you need to make a logical or extended partition to have more than 4). Plz. Help!
I have resized my main C: to have 20GB of free space. Space is not the problem, I’m wondering why it won’t let me make extended and logical partitions.
