How to connect switch to existing Linksys WRT54GS wireless router?

Christian asked:

I have a wi-fi network as follows:

Downstairs (1st floor):
Linksys WRT54GS router
Acer Desktop PC hardwired to it and running Vista Home.

Third floor:
Dell Latitude D820 running both XP and Kubuntu (primarily Kubuntu).
Compaq Presario desktop running Kubuntu.
Both these machines are connected wirelessly to the router downstairs.

To expand:
I wish to have a switch up here (if that’s the way to go) because I wish to try adding my TiVo to the network
To do that, I’ll probably need to buy a switch because we’re about to add a laptop running probably Vista (XP is suddenly getting hard to find) which will use wi-fi internet access (for a total of four machines on the Linksys router).
Ideally, I’d like to use a wireless connection between the switch and the router downstairs.

It is possible to connect a switch wirelessly to a router? If so, is it very workable? Or secure (let’s not leave that out)? Any other advice?

Thanks in advance for your advice!
To me more clear (sorry, my bad), I wish to have a private network that serves my two computers and my Tivo and then have that network connect to the Linksys wireless router for internet access, so I’m also not sure if I need a switch or a second router, etc.
JustOnceK had a good suggestion, but unfortunately there are no “landline phone jacks” up here and we have a DSL internet connection, so that’s a no-go. Thanks for answering, though!

How to get a Linux machine (Ubuntu Edgy) to hook up to the internet?

Christian asked:

I have a Linksys WRT54GS router and two Windows PCs hooked up to that. On a third machine, I removed Windows and installed Ubuntu 6 instead (Edgy). I must say that I do like Linux! Is there any way I can get my new Linux box to hookup to my existing home network?

If not, is there a way I can put all three of the machines on a single home network (ideally wireless because of where they’re located in the house; different floors and such).

I’m open to various options (hub, switch, whatever).

Thanx!
