01.2.09How to install Windows XP Pro on a pc with Ubuntu as the only OS?
xxfftlxx@sbcglobal.net asked:
Ok i need some serious help here. My laptop, as of right now, has Ubuntu as its OS. I came across an unused Windows XP Pro CD and want to install it. I booted to the CD and tried to install it, but it crashes. I searched some forums and from what i gather i have to delete the Linux partitions before i can install Windows XP. Thats where i get stuck. How do i delete the linux partitions? I have the Ubuntu cd if that helps. Thanks for all help!

Ubuntu software?
mammothmeg asked:
I currently use Windows Vista but I was talking to my friend who uses Ubuntu. I’m not really sure what the difference is and which one is really ‘better’. I primarily use my laptop for school/music/games…the usual stuff. Also, what’s the difference between Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Edubuntu, Gobuntu, Ubuntu MID edition, and Xubuntu?

Any normal explanation much appreciated, I don’t speak computer lingo.

sasuke.ninja_26 asked:
I have a laptop with Vista on it and I want to switch to Xubuntu, so I want to know if I can partition my Hard drive into vista and linux, then transfer files from the windows side over to the linux side, and then move the partition to give the linux side more disk space. I dont want to have to use a external hard drive.

Kubuntu iso CD installed on Windows XP laptop - won’t run?
sail7915 asked:
I want to run Linux from a CD that I have just burned; computer starts up but msg appears “Windows needs to know what program created it . . . etc”. I understood that Linux would run independently of Windows and am reluctant to mix the two OS. Any words of wisdom appreciated.

Problem loading Atheros AR5005G in Ubuntu, Kubutu, & PCLinuxOS?
Reverend J asked:
I read that Ubuntu and Kubuntu 7.04 are both supposed to support the Atheros AR5005G adapter out of the box, but I’ve found that isn’t the case with my laptop. I’ve attepted to load the driver up using ndiswrapper using both Ubuntu and PCLinuxOS.
After loading the driver with ndiswrapper I get
netmw13b : driver installed
device (11AB:1FAA) present
when typing ndiswrapper -l into a terminal.
So I entered
sudo depmod
sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
and got no errors.
But when I do iwconfig I get
no no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions
and when I do ifconfig I don’t get anything other than my eth0 wired connection and some stuff under lo. Sorry wouldn’t all fit.
Anyone have any suggestions on how I might get my adapter working in Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS, or Kubuntu? It works find under Windows Vista. I’m very thankful for any time you can spare.

My Ubuntu laptop won’t wake up after I close the lid. How do I fix that?
Schmitty asked:
I just installed the new release of Ubuntu on my laptop and now whenever I close the laptop it won’t wake back up when I want to use it again. I still want it to go into stand-by when I close the lid in order to conserve batteries, but when i open it back up it won’t wake back up. I tried pushing the power button, moving the mouse and pressing Fn+Esc - none seem to work.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue?
