linux ubuntu issue?
hellotherekiddo1 asked:
My Ubuntu is having problems running smoothly.
When I open windows that are fairly large (cover 1/4 of the screen), when I drag it always gets “skippy”. The same goes for xubuntu. Kubuntu and Gentoo, on the other hand, runs a bit better. On my vista, everything runs smoothly. Is there a way to fix it? Ubuntu is the only one I got working to boot up on my Hard Drive as opposed to a liveCD
which linux version is good for a windows convert?
sn_cloud asked:
Hi,
I am looking to build a new home PC & would like to start using Linux . I’ve built PC’s before, so I’ll verify that I can get a linux driver before purchasing a video card/sound card/etc..
I’m unable to determine which linux version is best for me.
Can someone give the differences between Suse, Red Hat, Xandros, & Kubuntu for an experienced Windows user?
thank you for your time.

12.23.08Using XFCE after trying out GNOME and KDE. Can I remove KDE? And why does Ubuntu boot as Kubuntu now?Thx?
Blackfly Magnet asked:
I installed Ubuntu about two weeks ago, and I love it. I am a complete Linux newbie, however. All I know is that Linux smokes Windows. Anyway, I tried out XFCE and I like it even better than GNOME or KDE. But now my system seems to flip between XFCE and GNOME when I start certain programs, and the startup screen says Kubuntu (from Kde?) rather than Ubuntu. Can I safely uninstall KDE and/or GNOME? Should I reinstall the whole system fresh with Kubuntu?
My desired outcome is a stable system running XFCE; anything you can suggest to help me get there would be most appreciated. I am comfortable editing config files, etc.

Are there any Linux distros you recommend?
Slacker asked:
I’ve used most of the popular ones:
Slackware
Ubuntu
Gentoo
Sabayon
Mandriva
Puppy
Damn Small
Linux Mint
gOS
Knoppix
Kubuntu
Xubuntu
PLOS
Slax
And probably more, I’ll add them when I think of them
Oh and Debian
openSUSE
Freespire
Fedora
………
I really like the Slackware-based distros and prefer XFCE and KDE over Gnome

How do you set up internet on linux?
DanKush asked:
Installed Kubuntu but for some reason it wont connect online, I was told it would automatically work, but it didn’t, I am connecting wifi, and configured the gateway to the correct address, still nothing. Also how do I get into root account so that I can make sure any changes I make are actually being saved, and how can I check all the ip configuration like you would in windows ip config. Thanks, I greatly appreciate any advice, info.
