Whats a good, GUI Linux that runs with less than 112mbs of RAM?

mr_ziy asked:

I tried using Ubuntu and Xubuntu, yet they require more than 112 MBs to run. DamnSmallLinux was okay, but the interface was confusing and didn’t have a proper GUI. What is a good one that doesn’t need more than 112 megabytes to run?

Should I switch to Linux?

Samantha asked:

I am currently using an old IBM Thinkpad laptop, the 600x series. I’m currently running XP, but with such an old computer (12G hard drive, 700ishMB RAM) I’ve been thinking about installing Ubuntu or Xubuntu instead. I have an external hard drive that I run extra programs off of and to hold all of my data, and have tried to get rid of everything I don’t need on the laptop to clear as much space as possible, but still no improvement. It was my grandparent’s so I think there is still alot of hidden errors in XP that are causing problems? I have used Ubuntu before and I really liked the interface.

Should I make the choice to switch to Ubuntu or Xbuntu? Would a OS change make a noticible difference in the speed of my computer?

thank you!

Serious problem with linux. its about rebooting?

Dillon C (who else) asked:

(I am using my moms computer to type this)
I am relatively new to using Linux, and i installed ubuntu on my computer and deleted the windows partition/ part of my 80 gb hard drive. After i installed it, i used it for a while amassing a almost irreplacable (what i mean by irreplaceable is that it would take monthes to make up my music files, Documents, Etc. )collection of stuff. I decided to upgrade from edgy eft, to feisty fawn, in the middle of updating (i was using the update manager) my computer froze, I went to the phone to ask one of my friends who doesnt know how to fix this problem, and while I was away, my little brother came along and pressed the big start button…

when i got back i tried to restart the computer but it says that it couldnt start the x server. and once i go through the trouble shooting process than it says something like it cant find the correct file system, or boot volume.
I have tried many different combinations but it still doesnt work.
I need to find a solution to solving this problem without having to install everything and make everythign again.
Is there somewhere on the net or on a torrent that i can download some stuff onto a cd, or a program , or a command in terminal that i can use to fix this problem.
Wait ill back up a bit.
Sometimes it lets me get into a terminal like interface and the screen is completely black, and The text is white and it allows me to type in commands.
I tried running
sudo apt get install
and than
sudo apt get upgrade
(I am not sure what the command text was but it worked,)
I then restarted the computer to see if it worked and it didnt
Please help
I have given to the community and I think that its time for the community to give back.
Thank You

need linux help?

umangb09 asked:

i installed ubuntu using the alternative text-based installer but for some reason none of the grafical interface was installed. i tried it 2 more time but got the same result. i also checked to make sude the cd isn’t defected but its fine. right now i am limited to using only the commands. i searched online but can’t find a solution. i do have an internet connection hooked to the computer. i have decided that i want to install kubuntu instead so if there is a way to do that then i would rather install kubuntu from what i currently have. if that won’t work then i need to somehow install the GUI for ubuntu using the commands. i just need the GUI. Please help!

some one knows how to interface ubuntu to a microchip controller as the manager to control a system?

SUAVE38 asked:

I am doing research to build a system that uses ubuntu OS as a manager to control several modular units built from PIC microcontrollers. Any one has done such a thing? or has any idea how?

Which is better, Ubuntu or Kubuntu?

Bill asked:

I’ve decided to get started using Linux, and I can’t decide whether I should use Ubuntu or Kubuntu. I’ve looked some online, but cannot find anything that gives me a clear idea about their distinctions. For example, I know that they use GNOME and KDE respectively, but I don’t really know what the distinction between them is.
My friend recommends getting Ubuntu (which he uses), and suggests I add KDE elements to it if I want to. However, that to me sounds like it would be an awkward solution.
Some other ideas I want to consider:
How do the programs differ?
Do both have virtual desktops?
Can both run the exact same programs?
Which is easier to use?
Which is a better interface to use for development?

Sorry this is so long, but you can take your time, I still need to obtain the computer to run it on…
Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated, especially if you are a fan and feel particularly strongly of either one.
