How do you remove one of two copies of Ubuntu?
Ugly Duckling asked:
(Just saying, I’m a complete newbie to all this.) While I was installing Ubuntu, I was partitioning my Hard Drive when my computer died on me. (I was using a bootable disc of the latest copy of Ubuntu) So I booted off the disc again and was partitioning my hard drive, again. Ubuntu is installed and working but when I start up my computer, I have 2 options of Ubuntu to run from. How do I get rid of one?

linux ubuntu issue?
hellotherekiddo1 asked:
My Ubuntu is having problems running smoothly.
When I open windows that are fairly large (cover 1/4 of the screen), when I drag it always gets “skippy”. The same goes for xubuntu. Kubuntu and Gentoo, on the other hand, runs a bit better. On my vista, everything runs smoothly. Is there a way to fix it? Ubuntu is the only one I got working to boot up on my Hard Drive as opposed to a liveCD
Any OS that can load nothing but a browser?
just another answerless person asked:
Hi, I want some kind of Operating System like DOS (preferably non-graphical) that can load a browser like Firefox (including graphics). I don’t need any other program installed. The reason I want this is because I want to be able to turn on my computer and just check my mail without having a long list of unnecessary programs starting in the background.
Some people I asked suggested I try one of the Linux Distros; well, I’ve already tried a lot of them (Xubuntu, DSL, VectorLinux, etc) and they load even slower than my Windows XP.
Bear in mind that I only want this as an additional OS to be installed in another partition of my hard drive. By the way, I have a Pentium 4 with 512 ram and a 30gb disk.
Well, I hope you can help me out. Thanks

I just put Xubuntu on an old computer to see if I like it, what is the best wireless nic to use?
Pilgrim asked:
This is a machine with a modest hard drive and only 262 ram.
I have returned two different cards at this point, one from ‘Best Buy’ whose Geek Squad guy told me it was the right one, and one from a small computer store who also told me it would work.
Obviously linux use isn’t so widespread that techies in places like these are up to speed on it.
Anybody out there have any ideas?

How do i delete Linux Ubuntu off my computer?

12.20.08Xubuntu cannot load the graphical desktop. (Xfce or something.) It goes into Text mode?
Sameh asked:
What I did was. I put the hard drive from my old computer into the new one (old one had no CDROM). I disconnected the original HDD from the new one… someone told me it was necessary.
From there I booted the Xubuntu LiveCD and installed Xubuntu, and then spent a pretty 2 hours configuring it.
When I put the HDD back into the old computer, It refuses to boot in graphical mode because of some configuration error.
My old computer meets the system requirements.
Any help?
Shame

How to have windows log-in first than Ubuntu?
Iñigo asked:
Hi, I just installed Ubuntu on a second hard-drive. I want to have it as second choice boot, but, when I turn on the pc, even though it asks me which OS I want to log in, after several seconds if I don’t move the arrow down it logs into Ubuntu automatically. How can I change orders, and make Windows the one to login automatically? (my dad won’t know how to use Ubuntu or choose OS)
Thnks
12.18.08Linux (Ubuntu) question, dual booting?
Tim asked:
Hello, I’ve been playing around with Ubuntu for a bit from the live cd and want to dual boot it with XP. If I use the guided option on the installer it says there’s not enough space for a partition or something. If I go into manual it says there’s 8MB free space and the rest (39999MB) is ‘unknown’. I know there is at least 25 GB free space on the hard drive. Any ideas for how to solve this? (Ubuntu version is Hardy Heron). Thanks

How do you install an OS on a blank HDD?
clintsonyakmaildevice asked:
Hi! I have a crappy old dell box (P2, 64MB RAM, 10gb HDD) & a MacBook Pro. Previously I had windows ‘98 on the dell, but I wanted to try something different so downloaded Xubuntu 7.0.4. I can copy that to the HDD or a blank CD to put in the dell but when I do that, if I start it up it just says “No Operating System Found” on the screen & it repeats that every time I press a Key. I copied the hard drive of the dell to my MBP before wiping it too, but now that I restore the dells HDD to its’ original way it still says “No OS Found” when I put it back in (I’m using an external firewire enclosure w/ my MBP).
So can anyone tell me how can I get Wins ‘98 or Xubuntu onto this thing?
(I also have the original (not pirated) install disks for Wins Me but not the rego key & I’ve tried about 5 other rego keys which haven’t worked after installing Wins Me)
Thanks!!
