09.21.08Kubuntu adept_manager question?
KINDofDUMB asked:
I recently installed Kubuntu 7.04 Fiesty Fawn on my external hard drive just to try it out since I’ve never used any distro of Linux before. The adept notifier says there is 1 update available for download, and every time I click on it or try to use the Add/Remove Programs in the menu I get this message, “Another process is using the packaging system database (probably some other Adept application or apt-get or aptitude). Please close the other application before using this one.”
I’ve checked the process table and closed everything that had adept or apt in the title, and I still get the same message as before when I try to use the adept manager.
If it’s even possible, if anybody could tell me how to check what is using the packaging system database so I could get the update it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Ubuntu 6.10 Display Issues?
jay s asked:
Hey everybody,
I have just installed Ubuntu 6.10, and it’s mounted on VirtualBox within a Windows XP Pro Environment SP2.
I’m very new to this (A few hours experience) and My problem is this (so far);
I want to try and make Ubuntu read my video/display drivers for my Nvidia 6600GT so I can have a higher resolution (read: fullscreen). The easiest way is to go to >>System>>Admin>>Restricted Drivers Manager. But this only seems avaliable in the latest version of Ubuntu 7.04 (Fiesty Fawn). I’m using 6.10 (Edgy Eft).
I really don’t want to upgrade yet, because I’m following a few tutorials and would like it to go as smooth as possible. Also, the download is around 800Megs. I can’t really spare that right now ![]()
Anyone had similar display issues? With Nvidia or ATI cards? I have already broken my hard disk image once trying to upgrade.
Ubuntu is working in 1024*768 but my XP (host) environment is 1280*1024. I have the porthole effect happening.
How to ‘patch’ the 6.10 version?
