OK I’m stumped?

Steve asked:

This weekend, I installed xubuntu 7.10 on an old computer (Celeron 677MHz, 128mb RAM, intel 810L) and it ran at a pretty fast speed.

So then I decided to install it on another computer (celeron 1.8GHz, 128mb RAM, intel 845GL) but it’s running incredibly slow. I seriously think even Vista would run faster on this computer. I don’t think it’s RAM curruption because I ran a memory test and everything passed. This computer runs XP faster than the other one but it’s extremely slow with xubuntu.

Any ideas on what’s causing this thing to run so slow?
It’s a fresh install with all the dafault processes running. And it’s ran slow in both ext3 and ext2, with a 1gb swap area
And yes, I tried 7.04 awhile back and had the same problem. I was hoping it would be fixed in 7.10 but I guess not

How can I access Windows files from Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy, Windows installation version?

hehoff234 asked:

I did not do an ext3 install - I did the NTFS install from the Windows installation that was available for the first time in Ubuntu 8.04. I used to have an ext3 install, with Ubuntu 7.10, and my windows partition was available in Places->Computer. With my installation, the Windows partition is no longer visible.
