How do I restore Ubuntu’s GRUB as primary boot sector (read on for specifics)?
Seth R asked:
The Situation:
1:) Ubuntu 8.04 installed, with GRUB as bootloader
2:) Vista is installed as a dual-boot, but replaces GRUB with its own bootloader
Question:
How do I use the Ubuntu Live CD to make GRUB the primary bootloader again, while also adding vista to the list of options in GRUB?
Linux (Ubuntu) question, dual booting?
Tim asked:
Hello, I’ve been playing around with Ubuntu for a bit from the live cd and want to dual boot it with XP. If I use the guided option on the installer it says there’s not enough space for a partition or something. If I go into manual it says there’s 8MB free space and the rest (39999MB) is ‘unknown’. I know there is at least 25 GB free space on the hard drive. Any ideas for how to solve this? (Ubuntu version is Hardy Heron). Thanks

Can I install GNOME, KDE and Xfce all at the same time with Xubuntu?
insignia asked:
Would this be ok? I’m a born windows user since the great win 3.1 and I want to try this “Linux” craze. I’ve researched almost everything about Linux and I’ve decided to dual boot Xubuntu with my XP SP2 on my AMD Sempron.
However, this GUI (desktop enviro) thingy is something new to me, hence the question.

Windows sound problem?
deadweight16 asked:
When I try to play a music file in windows, I get an error message, no matter the program. I know it has something to do with windows because I have a dual-boot OS set up and sound works in Linux (Xubuntu).
Windows told me I had the most up to date driver for my card. In order to make sure it wasn’t corrupted I’ve installed about 4 different drivers for my card, none of them worked, and I’m pretty sure I’m back to default (the driver I have now should work regardless of whether or not it was what I had before anyway). My card is a “Sound Blaster Live!” card and I’m running on Windows ME.
Shorten version for those who can’t be bothered to read:
my computer’s sound isn’t working in windows
volume and program used are fine.
everything is plugged in right.
its not the physical sound card/hardware
pretty sure its not the driver
I’m running Windows ME
its a Sound Blaster Live! card
any suggestions?

Do i need to partition my hard drive for dual boot?
Poggy asked:
I am running Vista at the minute and i am going to dual boot with Linux Ubuntu. (Hardy Heron)
I do not know much about partitions but in my computer i have a Vista:C which is around 75GB and this is where everything on Vista saves. I then have a Data:E which is around 75GB and is virtually empty. When i install Ubuntu can i just install it onto Data:E and not have to partition anything?
