Can I use Ubuntu Linux to learn and study for the exam?

I’ve checked the process table and closed everything that had adept or apt in the title, and I still get the same message as before when I try to use the adept manager.
If it’s even possible, if anybody could tell me how to check what is using the packaging system database so I could get the update it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Dell Poweredge 2550 server with 5 hard drives, only one of which I have not had trouble with?

The ubuntu server 7.10 froze at 21 percent twice with 2 different downloads and cd’s, and so did the Ubuntu 7.10 alternate. I am currently trying the opensuse non live cd. I just want to use it as a file server and to browse the web and stuff like that. It has 2 933mhz prosessors, and 1 gb of memory. Thanks in advance!

Why is Ubuntu despised so much within some corners of the Linux community ?

But my question is what makes some people despise this fine distro. so much. Has it become too popular so some Linux users can no longer consider themselves members of an elitist club. Whats the problem with some in the Linux community as the likes of Ubuntu are catching on as mainstream players. Your thoughts.

I am trying to boot them from a live cd.
I tried a different distro (openSUSE) earlier today and it did the same thing.
Other things will boot from CD but not Linux!

How would I modify the core components of Linux (preferably debian or ubuntu) to make my own distro?

Which Linux distribution should I use (please read details)?

I’ve been using Linux for a while now and know my way around. I’ve recently tried OpenSUSE, Kubuntu, Fedora 9 (with both Gnome and KDE), Gentoo, and Ubuntu. I prefer the Gnome desktop environment over KDE and am using a laptop with a 64 bit processor. I’m currently using Ubuntu 8.04 but am getting bored of how easy and simple it is to use. I really like Fedora, but version 9 has problems on my laptop. If you could give me any advice on your favorite distro, or one that you think I may like, that’d be great. Thank You!
