Which KDE 4 distro should I use?

Slacker asked:

I just installed KDE 4.1 on Slackware and HOLY CRAP I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

But it seems a little too unstable, so I want to use KDE 3.5.9 in Slackware and dual-boot with some kind of KDE4 distro.

So I’m thinking about using one of these:
Mandriva 2009
Fedora 10 (Or whatever the latest is)
Kubuntu 8.10

But feel free to recommend anything
Preferably 64bit, but 32bit is fine
Silly spammer, tricks are for kids
wait, is it trix?

yeah there we go

Kubuntu adept_manager question?

KINDofDUMB asked:

I recently installed Kubuntu 7.04 Fiesty Fawn on my external hard drive just to try it out since I’ve never used any distro of Linux before. The adept notifier says there is 1 update available for download, and every time I click on it or try to use the Add/Remove Programs in the menu I get this message, “Another process is using the packaging system database (probably some other Adept application or apt-get or aptitude). Please close the other application before using this one.”

I’ve checked the process table and closed everything that had adept or apt in the title, and I still get the same message as before when I try to use the adept manager.

If it’s even possible, if anybody could tell me how to check what is using the packaging system database so I could get the update it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I have a Dell Poweredge 2550 server with 5 hard drives, only one of which I have not had trouble with?

h.m.r@sbcglobal.net asked:

I want to know which distro of Linux I should load on it. I have tried openSUSE live CD, Ubuntu 7.10 live CD, Fedora Core live cd, and the Ubuntu 6.04 Dapper Drake LTS live CD which is the only one that worked. The ubuntu server 7.10 froze at 21 percent twice with 2 different downloads and cd’s, and so did the Ubuntu 7.10 alternate. I am currently trying the opensuse non live cd. I just want to use it as a file server and to browse the web and stuff like that. It has 2 933mhz prosessors, and 1 gb of memory. Thanks in advance!

Why is Ubuntu despised so much within some corners of the Linux community ?

LUG asked:

I refer to blogs such as this http://linuxhaters.blogspot.com/2008/06/evolution-of-ubuntu-user.html unfortunately it contains language that some may find offensive. But my question is what makes some people despise this fine distro. so much. Has it become too popular so some Linux users can no longer consider themselves members of an elitist club. Whats the problem with some in the Linux community as the likes of Ubuntu are catching on as mainstream players. Your thoughts.

Ubuntu linux won’t boot?

Michael K asked:

I’ve tried Ubuntu and Xubuntu, but it just boots XP normally. Hitachis hard drive checker works when I boot it from a disk, but this won’t! Can anyone help me?
I am trying to boot them from a live cd.

I tried a different distro (openSUSE) earlier today and it did the same thing.

Other things will boot from CD but not Linux!

Thanks

How would I modify the core components of Linux (preferably debian or ubuntu) to make my own distro?

Dustin asked:

I want to make my own distribution, targeted at linux newbies making the transition to linux. I would prefer it to be based on debian or ubuntu due to the large amount of software for both, yet something my own. Like a custom boot screen, one centralized task bar, and if it is in any way possible, the last copy of beryl. I would need the iso file.

Which Linux distribution should I use (please read details)?

Random asked:

I’ve been using Linux for a while now and know my way around. I’ve recently tried OpenSUSE, Kubuntu, Fedora 9 (with both Gnome and KDE), Gentoo, and Ubuntu. I prefer the Gnome desktop environment over KDE and am using a laptop with a 64 bit processor. I’m currently using Ubuntu 8.04 but am getting bored of how easy and simple it is to use. I really like Fedora, but version 9 has problems on my laptop. If you could give me any advice on your favorite distro, or one that you think I may like, that’d be great. Thank You!
