when my system boot i can’t find the screen for dual booting?

I have a bootable xubuntu disk. i want to boot and install xubuntu os from it (it is in my cd rom). i previously went to BIOS and changed to order of boot.(basically i made the pc boot from the hdd after it booted from the disk.)
but the problem is that now it takes 2-3 minutes trying to boot from the cd rom, then boots from the hdd (win98). basically, its skipping the boot from the cd.
I have another ‘problem’ with my cd rom. please read, it might be something to do with this:

oh, and i checked the bootable disk, and it works fine. i installed xubuntu as a second os on my other pc.

Windows XP Pro boots to loading screen then reboots. ?

I booted xubuntu from a live CD and that runs perfectly on the system. I cannot access windws at all not even the partition from xubuntu. i cant install ubuntu to the HD despite there being 65 GB free space. It may be the hard drive as what ever i do i cannot access it/resize it.
any ideas why. i reconfigured the bios and everything but nothing works.
i do not have a XP cd so any ideas that do not involve reformating. P.S i am very good on pcs so don’t tell me nooby stuff.
FOR GOD SAKE JUSTIN I AM NOT A NOOB. of course i tried safe mode. i told you i cannot access windows at all. even from the harddrive and using XUbuntu.
and i know its f8. Nothing i do will allow me to access windows. i even used a live cd that allows you to view and extract stuff from windows. it works for my laptop but cannot access the partition windows is installed on on the desktop

Portable Kubuntu on a usb drive?

I have a 60GB portable hard drive on which i installed Kubuntu 8.04.
the problem is that when booting from annother pc it won’t boot into the gui. i think this is a driver related issue?
- I need it to boot on various pc’s at work (without interferring with the windows installations) and my pc at home.
Is there some way of installing Kubuntu so that it finds out what drivers are needed and uses them each time it boots up?
Or is there a better solution to my problem?

after a month or so of having linux i started having a starting problem ubuntu would show the normal screen with the bar. after the bar gets filled up a bit the screen turns black and shows me it checking (i beleive drivers) and then it says ubuntu has gone 20 times without being checked and under that it shows this bar

once it reeches 75% it freezes i have tried reinstalling it but after a while it shows me this again i am wondering if there is a solution to this problem. Feel free to email me and i will tell you more information. thank you
